I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AS YOU!!!! I am using Logitech z-640 speakers with the same symptoms. Anyway, here is the solution. go here: ftp://asus.com/pub/ASUS/misc/audio/ad1988 and download the previous audio driver: AD1988_WinXP_510014530.zip That should fix it for you. :D

It's wierd that both machines would be acting that way.
