Marlin1975 the workstations only cost me $200 and they are only used as render nodes. My workstaion is an i7 based PC. I am just curious that they aren't faster and thought there may be a reason other than they are just old and slow :)
This sounds tempting, I just have limited time at the moment. How hard is the process of recompiling blender?
I haven't seen anywhere that says Blender is capable of GPU rendering. I swapped over the video cards as a test and no differences where seen for rendering.
Thanks for the links. I...
I have just bought a pair of second hand HP workstations(xw8200) to start my own renderfarm for Blender animation.
Now I thought that the Dual Xeon 3.4Ghz CPUs in these workstations would have been considerably faster than my existing AMD X2 64 2.6Ghz machine that I use for rendering, but NO...
I have read that the Xeons have HT as well, but it doesn't really matter as I think the extra performance I will get during the modelling and animating stages will more than offset any gain during the rendering stage.
Great points, I completely forgot to factor in the modelling and animating stages.
I do generally have other programmes up intermittently but usually I never render while I’m using them. I'm doing a lot of physics models like realistic fur and fluids and they are just taking forever on...
Theoretically you may be able to break it down to one thread per pass per pixel per frame but unfortunately there are limitations in the software that would prevent the maximised use of such an awesome render farm (does the apple store sell 1.1trillion core render farm :))
I know at Dreamworks...
Hi All
I have searched hi and low for a definative answer to this question and have read some very confusing material. The question relates to a machine I want to build for the purposes of 3D animation and visual effects.
The original question was what would render a 3D scene in Blender...
