Are there any good Socket 2011 boards you'd recommend?

I'm attempting to find a board to go with my recently purchased i7-6850K and I'm finding that none of the socket 2011 boards have very good ratings. All I need is a good, general use board to run 16gb of DDR4 3000MHz ram for heavy multitasking on Windows 10. No overclocking, one Nvidia GTX 470...

    Older case with newer components?

What if I kept the older parts in this case, would the 80mm side fan help them? I run two computers and the second one, if I used the old parts from this one, would get a significant upgrade, but there's no way the case it's using now would support even half of the stuff from that build. I...

    Older case with newer components?

Ya, it's flat on against the side of the desk; the 1/2" is from the feet of the case sticking out a little bit to the side to give it added stability. I'm not worried about noise at all, more concerned with the components not overheating or frying. I think I might look into adding that fan.

    Older case with newer components?

I was thinking about putting an 80mm intake fan on the left side which would blow pretty much right on the graphics card. The only reason I haven't yet is that the case sits with its left side against my desk (unfortunately nowhere else to put it). There's about 1/2" of space between the desk...

    Older case with newer components?

I've been using the same case since my parents got it for me as a birthday present 6.5 years ago, and it's still one of, if not the coolest cases I've ever seen. The Foxconn Diabolic ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-006-_-Product ) came out in late 2003 and at the time, was a...

    General Build Hardware Questions

If I went with the 470 (same case as the 480 I believe?) I would need a new power supply though, wouldn't I? I only did a quick glance to see the prices, so with some deal hunting, $40 would definitely be worth it; unless the additional power supply cost was +$100 or something. I haven't...

    General Build Hardware Questions

The graphics card itself seems to be far less of a gap than it used to be, with the GTX 470 being better, but $100 more than the GTX 460. Is that $100 going to buy an additional year in future performance? Along the same lines, there were several processors that seemed like they were in the...

    General Build Hardware Questions

I read through the Wikipedia article; a lot of this stuff can get incredibly confusing when broken down to the component level. I used a dpi calculator to compare the current 22" systems I have running 1680x1050 and there is a slight difference from the 19" to the 22", even though I don't...

    General Build Hardware Questions

On the monitors, you guys used a few acronyms I wasn't familiar with... PVA panel, and IPS panel, as well as TN panel. I'll admit I have no idea what makes one LCD different from another. My viewing point is center on in an ideally lit room with monitors straight ahead (no tilt) and about...

    General Build Hardware Questions

Thanks for the feedback! I don't have any real preference between AMD and Intel; I used AMD for several upgrades prior to this current build, and I remember going with the Intel because it was supposed to be better for both gaming and image processing. I haven't looked at RAM prices in...

    General Build Hardware Questions

I apologize for the length of this post. I've taken to the path of upgrading every few years with virtually a complete overhaul, as to not have to worry about parts for a while. That being said, my last core upgrade was several years ago now, and this is what I've been running: - INTEL...

    Starcraft 2 Art Contest

I linked a bigger version of it in the 3rd post down, looks better larger size anyhow. I'm totally in agreement. They've handled this contest very poorly.

    Starcraft 2 Art Contest

The design was my idea, the artwork was done by my friend/colleague Santiago (gallery: http://moonfx.deviantart.com/ ) He does some pretty amazing stuff. I think he might have done the initial sketch in Paint Tool SAI (I believe that's the name at least) but most of his work is done in Photo...

    Starcraft 2 Art Contest

Thanks for the feedback. The reflection was actually a late addition, put in on Tuesday afternoon before we submitted it. We didn't get a lot of time to perfect the marine. This is a larger version, you can kind of see it better here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/28903/sc%20scene.png
