    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

What's the difference or advantage (if there is one) to JBOD over a RAID 0? Just ordered an Intel SAS expander so the Adaptec controller can have more drives and I can properly setup a RAID 6 or 10. Definitely just going to run a 0 (or now possibly JBOD) with the PC as I also have backup...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

Yea, it seems that way, but I know they perform better in a hardRAID 0 as I have one setup in my Server at the moment. Unfortunately, WD Reds weren't around when I set all this up and Blacks were WAY too expensive. I can't justify spending the money to replace them when they're not faulty or...

Ok, you can see write cache is on: Controllers found: 1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Controller information ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Controller Status : Optimal Channel...

Yea, I think I'm gonna do the swap like that. The stripe size is 64KB right now for the RAID 5. I've enabled write back for each of the drives and I'm running benchmarks now and will let you know the results.

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

Ok, that makes sense. Problem is that the 2 Intel ports are being used by the RAID 0 I have with 2 Samsing 840 Pro SSDs. I'm thinking of basically swapping the Adaptec controller into the backup Server for the RAID 5 as it's always running and then put the controller from the Server (only does...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

Alright, I will give it a shot. I'm sure this is going to sound really bad, and it's mostly due to inexperience, but I assumed that the RAID 5 I have in my PC would be ok for a system that I boot up and shutdown on a regular basis, but I'm clearly mistaken and it seems I would be better off...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

Well, I don't think it's the cable as it's a mini-sas fan cable so I would assume all disks would report the same issue if it was. Same goes for the controller, I would think. UPDATE: Just another update. I found a post about a utility to change the idle time from 8 seconds to 300 seconds...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

What is the logic/reasoning behind this? Everything I've read up to now states that if the controller write cache is enabled, you disable the disk write cache to try to prevent issues from happening during a loss of power. What's wrong with having the disk write cache set to write through...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

I appreciate the insight, but a RAID 10 wouldn't work for me unless I upgraded to 3TB or 4TB drives due to the data I need to store. As an update though, it looks like two of the disks may be having some S.M.A.R.T. issues: Read Error Rate rawValue="0" Spin-Up Time in millisecs rawValue="4391"...

    Adaptec 6405 Slow Write Speeds

Before I start I just want to say that I've done a TON of research on this and have tried everything that I can find, short of getting a different controller, to resolve the write speed issues that I am seeing. Current Rig: OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 800D...
