I've been using Vista 64-bit mostly, tho I travel between OS's quite a lot :) What I can say about 4gb vs 8gb of RAM in Vista 64-bit: it DOES make a difference. A lot more activity seems to run straight through RAM, which is resulting in less hard drive access. See here for example...
