Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Tweaked a bit more, got the RAM to run @ 2133MHz, increased the 3DMark11 score (+254 points from stock), and updated with some OC gaming benchmarks.

Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Updated the original post with the first of the overclocked benchmarks (3DMark11). An increase of 240 points, I think that's pretty decent!

Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Messing with voltages to stabilize OC'd system performance, right now the max I'm getting is 105MHz FSB without crashing. Increasing the FSB to 106 (even when going back to the default GPU Clock and lowering the multiplier to 39 yielding in a lower overall GHz output than my 'stable' 105 x 42)...

I haven't noticed any strange noises from the Cougar fan, and I see nothing wrong with PWM fans.

    That's probably why ;)

For the same components I listed (same part numbers)? Are you in the USA?

Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Updated with a start at consolidating pictures, and a more detailed fan vs. fan graph depicting noise level delta as well, along with CPU-z and GPU-z readouts at stock APU settings.

In the BIOS, go to Settings > Advanced > Integrated Graphics Configuration > Integrated Graphics Devices and select Dual Graphics (yes, counter-intuitive). This opens up Integrated Grahpics Share Memory where you can allocate 32MB, 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1GB, or 2GB.

Added benchmarks for Lost Planet 2 both DX11 and DX9 modes (from the standalone LP2 benchmark application). Looks like I've reached the picture limit for my original post, I'll have to consolidate a bit!

Yeah, not something I'm really too worried about, I'm sure there is a difference no doubt. If there happens to be a standalone Metro 2033 benchmark (and if someone can point me towards it), I'm more than happy to run it and report on the results.

Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Updated the benchmark graphs with the new method, and put up Batman Arkham Asylum (was about to re-post that one last night but as soon as I went to the forum went down for maintenance). I don't have Metro or BF3 (and don't particularly plan on getting either), however the games I've...

Chronicle of an AMD APU Budget Machine Project

Thanks for all of the feedback and interest guys, the reason I'm benching at 720p is because as I mentioned at the top of my original post, this computer was built to hook up to my TV for 'couch' gaming, and my set is 720p. I'm actually in the process of modifying the benchmark graphs to break...

Reduced GPU allocated RAM to 1GB (originally I had allocated the max of 2GB), see original post update for reasoning. Added benchmark results for 3DMark11, Batman Arkham Asylum, and Batman Arkham City.

Yes, I actually do have plans to pick up a Radeon HD6670 to run in Crossfire with the APU's graphics core at some point!
