You can use the license manager (slmgr.vbs) to install the key and license file for the particular OEM after installation.
I've never created a specific DVD for these, but I've installed from a retail DVD without entering a key, then used slmgr.vbs to install the OEM key and license file...
I would doubt a power supply issue since holding the power button did not shut the system down.
I have seen motherboards fail this way before.
You could try turning on the power supply directly (grounding green wire) while still plugged into the motherboard.

Take a look at the latest version of Alcohol 120%.
They include the StarWind iSCSI driver to share physical drives with.
I can't remember off hand if they include the initiator or if you will need the free iSCSI Initiator from Microsoft.

Basically any CMOS compatible hex inverter will work. (74HC04 or 74HCT04 are very common) I think this is one of the few IC's Radio Shack still carries.
I did pull 5v from a USB header.

No matter what supply voltage these modules are expecting, I'm fairly certain they are expecting a TTL level input not coax.
I managed to get the Asus bracket working for both coax and toslink.
The Asus bracket is expecting a TTL signal to run the toslink transmitter and it converts it down...
