I have quite a bit of data that I backup on two external drives which I keep at two separate locations. I call it my ghetto RAID, and I'm sure plenty of people would never use such a system, but I do. I don't like relying on backup/synchronization software, so I manually maintain each archive...
You know, I considered doing this myself but never did, for whatever reason. So I just did it, and sure enough it doesn't happen with the new user. So, I got out Wingrep and searched the old user folder (which was small enough that it didn't crash Wingrep like an entire C: search did), and I...
Well... here is something interesting!
With FF gone, IE was my default again. Sure enough, it did launch... but it only tried to connect to http://homegroup/
Which means FF was adding in the www and com... which makes me even more suspicious this is not a virus but something I did in my...
Yeah, I also tried to wingrep my entire HDD for homegroup.com, but it just kept crashing wingrep, I guess it can't deal with such a large search set. :-/
I am at my wit's end here. Earlier today I was unable to accomplish something which has never been a problem for me in the past. Simple file transfers over a local network between two Windows 7 PC's. I still haven't got to the bottom of it, but a newer problem has sprung up which would be pretty...
I had every single one of these share connections working before (all on Win7) without homegroups. I prefer to stay away from homegroups, since I still have some non Windows machines needing access to the shares sometimes... and in general if it ain't broke why fix it? I never needed...
I must be missing sometime incredible obvious here...
3 PC's in house:
1) Win7 Ultimate
2) Win7 HP
3) Win7 HP
All are on the same network (1 is hardwired, 2 and 3 are laptops on wi-fi). I have some folders shared on #1.
- each PC has only one account, with admin powers, and no password
- I...
Example:
I know for a fact that I have ATI Drivers "11.6" installed. However, in my control panel it says the driver is "8.861.0.0" for my ATI card.
This is confusing at best. At worst, it is problematic. If I did not know that this driver was 11.6, but knew that I liked something...
Good info from all... thanks so much for all the feedback.
I think the one major step missing from my manual workflow process was error checking. I ended up getting a manual MD5 hashing tool:
http://corz.org/windows/software/checksum/
Seems pretty popular from the search engine...
Looking for critique on my thought process here, and a few unanswered questions regarding data corruption.
As a photographer and videographer I generate a sizeable amount of data very quickly, data that I want to last a lifetime. For years I archived it on optical discs in triplicate (2...
Unfortunately, in roughly 4 months I have already been through 2 of the CM fans. After 2 months or so they seem to start making a lot of noise (scraping/chirping sound), so I have to replace them. Just put my 3rd one in. If this one starts making noise too, I am done with these for good.
