How, or where, can I verify if the card is not compatible with the motherboard?
According to ASUS, it's backwards compatible. Compaq would only refer me to the card manufacturer.
Disabled the Intel display and restarted PC with the screen plugged into the new card.
Didn't get far... it hung on startup and the monitor, an Acer LCD, had the message it was not connected to the PC.
Held the power switch in until it shut down. Then I connected monitor to the motherboard...
Well, I hit F10 at startup and set the option to PCI e x16 followed by save. And I confirmed later that that's the setting it held.
Did I do something wrong, or do it in the wrong place?

Have a Presario SR5250NX and am trying to get an ASUS EAH5550 running. The PC's simply not recognizing the card.
I've upgraded the BIOS from here:

I have the setup BIOS set to PCI x16.
