I am having the exact same problem. I even have all the same hardware (except for the RAM, mine is Corsair XMS3500, and I have a Ti4600). Have you found a solution?

I'm running in Holy Sh*t mode for Graphics on a P4 2.8 GF4Ti4600 system at 1280x1024 and it's smooth as silk.
