Opnion on Arctic Silver III application..Help!

I wouldn't worry about it :) Most of it got "squeezed" out anyway. That is what it was designed to do...get out of the way, and allow contact between the HS and the CPU...it just fills in the microscopic valleys on the HS and core, so that better contact is made. Your installation is fine :)

    CPU/Processors...?

the cpu would be the last consideration in that situation. Anything over 500Mhz would be fine. Your major concerns would be RAM, video card and internet connection speed (512MB RAM, GF4 Ti4600 and DSL/Cable or higher would be nice :) )...

    Athlon XP 1800+ and a WBK38 HSF?

At stock speeds, that HS should work fine. If I were you, I'd save the money to upgrade to a DDR board, otherwise you will never tap the full potential of that 1800+...

    1.6A or 1.8A ?

the 1.6a has a little more headroom for overclocking because of the lower multiplier...

    Are Celeron's multiplier locked?

every Intel made after August 1998 was locked. The cut-off MHz was the PII 266...some of the batch were locked, some were unlocked. Anything PII 233 and earlier were unlocked. As far as the 850, a little over 1.1Ghz is average for that chip. You should get at least 1Ghz on air, but watch your...

    Is Shuttle AK31 V3.1 KT266A good for OC w/ XP 1800+?

FSB settings from 100-166 CPU Vcore settings from -0.025 ~ -0.100 or +0.025 ~ +0.275 DDR Vcore settings from 2.5 - 2.7 Multis from 5-13 For a simple overclock of the FSB, you may be alright, but you ain't gonna get much. You are limited by the voltage. You will have to do a volt mod to the...

    The Thermalright AX-7 is a little over-hyped.

I am actually beginning to wonder if there was good contact between to cpu and the HS...sounds almost like it was not installed properly, and did not have good contact.

    XP 1700+, 1800+, or 1900+

newegg.com has the 1600+ for under $80...and most of the newer ones they have shipped have been AROIA stepping. $80 for 1.8GHz on air is a bargain in anyone's book...just get some good PC2700/PC3000 memory, and the sky's the limit! :) :) :)

    AMD Athlon XP 2100+ Overheating?

A quick check of the Epox website doesn't confirm or deny the built-in thermistor monitoring suggestion (it says the board Supports Hardware Monitoring Function by W83697HF) , so the first thing I would check is the installation of the heatsink, to make sure it was done properly. Did the guy use...

    Unlocked XP or not?!!

No, it is not possible to clock a locked cpu at all...up or down. If your BIOS is showing the speed increase, then you have unlocked the chip, although it may only be partially unlocked. I would suggest wiping the chip off with fingernail polish remover, and trying again. The first and second...
