PC Anywhere or Terminal server?

I have used both pcAnywhere 9 and Terminal Services for Win2k Server. Terminal Services seems to be quicker overall, even though it can only run at 256 colors. Even against pcAnywhere at 256 colors it is quicker. They both support encryption, which is a good thing. Terminal Services will use...

    problem installing autoconf

I'm running FreeBSD 4.2 and am trying to install autoconf 2.50. I've already installed GNU m4 1.4, it's located in /usr/bin, but when I try to install autoconf I get this: [/usr/src] Root # ./configure checking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build...

Want to wipe out my Sony Vaio to install Win2K.....insane??

OK, I don't blame it fully on Microsoft, but thier implementation of ACPI has caused problems, even though they intended it not too, and even though it may be due to poor drivers. According to their knowledge base, ACPI is designed to stick most components on the same IRQ. However, I do agree...

Want to wipe out my Sony Vaio to install Win2K.....insane??

OK, yes for a laptop it would be good. But consider this. I have a 950Mhz Athlon w/ an ATI Radeon, SB Live!, Intel 10/100 nic on a Soyo motherboard. When I turn on ACPI it assigns everything to IRQ 11, which causes problems. Since I try to assign the IRQ's but the problem is with ACPI, as...

Want to wipe out my Sony Vaio to install Win2K.....insane??

<< ACPI compatibility is the key >> No it's not, I've installed Win2k on machines before that didn't have ACPI compatibility and it runs fine. I actually turned of ACPI on my system, as have many others, because of problems that ACPI can cause.

Question on Pioneer Slot load DVD's.

Yes. Well, for DVD's they are fine since it's spinning at a lower speed, as well as audio-cd's. But they are kinda noisy for regular cd-rom usage. The Pioneer tray loading models on the otherhand are quiet.

    Norton Antivirus under Win2k

It doesn't slow anything down. I have run it on both a P3 500 and an Athlon 950 under Win2k Pro and Advanced Server on the P3 500, and it doesn't slow anything down really. The only time I disable it is when I play games because I'm sure I'll get another 1/1000th of a performance increase.

    FreeBSD Question

Just stick that line, /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start in your /etc/rc.conf file. Anything you put in there will be started when you start up the computer as long as it doesn't need user interaction to start.

    Section of monitor is...BLURRED?!?!

I have the same problems with my soon to be RMA'ed Viewsonic 19" P95f. Try adjusting other thigns, such as convergence and focus; and less likely but still maybe a problem is moire or vertical linearity. I know on my monitor I can adjust almost all settings for quaters of the screen, so...

Looking for an ISP - Standard DUN with no idle disconnects?

Just make sure they aren't an ISP that disconnects you after a few hours (even if the connection IS NOT idle). Because there wont' be much of a way to stop this.
