    Delidding disaster

Ignorant question but what advantage is there to delidding a CPU?

    256 Agility 4 = $130

Newegg sent me something by FedEx/USPS. Took exactly 7 days from CA to MA. Fine by me for Free Shipping on a very low value item.

No need to remind them of old prejudices. I'm a Brit and I am s-o-o-o tired of Americans talking about bad British food which is based on decades old memories of US Servicemen from WW II. Which reminds me - anyone want to tell me of the glories of American Cuisine?

    256 Crucial M4 = $160

mSATA is very useful for really tiny boxes based on thin-mITX boards like the Intel DH61AG but also eliminates a 2.5" box in other applications.

So Ricochet hasn't had any problems with OCZ drives and after recycling years old rumours about TD rebates actually says he's had good luck with them. Wonder why he didn't write a positive note? ~ $0.50 / gigabyte SSD seems rather good to me.

OS for ASUS Eee PC 900HA

Dunno. I don't have a gmail account. Hexxeh's version of ChromeOS didn't require it.

OS for ASUS Eee PC 900HA

Be careful with Hexxeh's versions of Chrome OS (named Lime). Some appear to be buggy. A good one is the archived 12 March 2012 version. I haven't used "Vanilla" ChromeOS. My little Asus only has a Phison (I think) 4GB "SSD drive" & came with Nettop version of Ubuntu 10.1. Slow as molasses. I...

If you're a student writing papers and maybe taking notes in class then CPU speed is hardly a real issue Playing games in class, that's another story...

    Phenom II X4 quad-core $49.99 @ Microcenter B&M

AnonymouseUser: I was merely adding my take to skillyho's post where he ended by saying "Either choice is solid, and the FPS difference in most games between those two chips will be very, very small at default settings. I would say the FX-6100 is perhaps more future proof and may serve you...

    Phenom II X4 quad-core $49.99 @ Microcenter B&M

AnonymouseUser: I didn't read earlier posts which discussed the bundle. I was speaking only of CPU for someone who already has a board. In any case he'd have a 2nd, quite cheap, CPU on hand PS No need to use the h*ll word...

    Phenom II X4 quad-core $49.99 @ Microcenter B&M

Phenom II X4 B93 is now $39.99 & Triple-core B73 $29.99 (according to latest MC email). Not that it really matters at the price, but these are C2 steppings. http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0389134 skillyho: The FX 6100 is $109.99. I'd "future proof" by...

Used Pentium M laptop vs. modern atom / amd for writing/office stuff

My 2 cents worth - You definitely need a 4:3 aspect ratio. Decent keyboard is another "must have" My Dell D410 with 1.5GB RAM runs Windows 7 Home Basic just fine. You don't need a silly little netbook with fiddly k/b and aspect ratio good only for watching Bruce Willis blow things up.

OS for ASUS Eee PC 900HA

Have a look at these http://www.haiku-os.org/ Haiku is a new open-source operating system that specifically targets personal computing. Inspired by the BeOS, Haiku is fast, simple to use, easy to learn and yet very powerful. http://chromeos.hexxeh.net/lime.php ChromiumOS is a lightweight...

Free SSD with select mini barebones

VirtualLarry: I posted link to side by side comparison. The *only* difference I can see is the White model supposedly supports DDR3-800 (??) and Black one DDR3-1066 (??). You be the judge.
