Yeah that's definately more than needed for what she plans to do...downgrade the cpu, mb, ram, and videocard. I would keep in mind noise and heat also, you might want to look into a lower clocked p4 setup to help with those issues. The Antec Sonata is a nice quiet oriented case that already...

got yah, didn't get a chance to really play around/learn the settings when I was running a 8500 card.

so I would uncheck the boxes and set the direct3d vsync to off rather then application preference and see if it works. Theres a chance 3dmark might be running something extra.

try unchecking the application preference tabs for aa and af, and wait for vsync under d3d to always off. Might work.
