Lots of info on overclocking all over the net, but can anyone recommend good resources for underclocking? I'd like to build a system with as few fans as possible (watercooling isn't a practical option for this particular machine) and want to know how low I'd have to underclock, say, an Athlon...
I run an NTP client to keep the clock set on my PC and I'm constantly amazed by how much correction needs to be applied every day. Why can't PC clocks keep time better than my microwave oven? It can't be that expensive to put a reasonably accurate clock on a motherboard, can it?
What I want to know is, why doesn't anyone make an external power supply like the one the Mac G4 Cube uses? Apple managed to build its machine with no cooling fans at all, in part by using an external power brick instead of an internal PS. I see no reason the exact same thing couldn't be done...
Does anyone make external PC power supplies? Moving the power supply outside the case would eliminate the need for a noisy power supply fan and lower the case temperature. It's clearly possible to power a computer with an external PS; Apple's G4 Cube (which has no cooling fans at all) uses...
