I've tried every option using F8 and they either reproduce the black screen after the XP splash or I'm able to get to the login screen but kb and mouse lock up. I've tried 2 USB and 2 ps/2 keyboards and all refuse to work at login but work fine in BIOS and POST.
I just downloaded the latest Nvidia WHQL drivers for my 8800gt (link). I installed the drivers and rebooted with no problem. Then I went back into Control Panel clicked uninstall for "Nvidia drivers" and chose the option to "uninstall all, except display drivers." This prompted me to reboot...

RMA solved my headaches.
I called the ASUS # on the box but was left on hold too long. So I stopped by their HQ in Fremont, CA and explained my situation. The rep told me they dont accept walk-ins especially without an RMA # but she was nice enough to take care of it.
I know there is a known compatibility issue with NeoHE power supplies and Asus boards. Asus and Antec both acknowledge this problem. Sometimes the system will shutdown w/o notice after 3 seconds. Sometimes it'll stay on if the CMOS is reset but its just a blank screen. There's plenty of threads...
i have the 1800FPW (18.1" LCD) and that happens to me occasionally, usually after i leave it on standby for a long time. it might just be me but i dont remember it happening when it was new
