Just a note for anyone finding this thread through Google as I did. A quick and easy way to fix a non-compliant displayport cable is to take a very thin (about 1/16") strip of electrical tape, and wrap it around pin 20 on one of the connectors. Pin 20 is the one closest to the angled notch in...
