I did a head to head comparison and it looks like the WD SE performed most poorly. I would say the IBM and Maxtor are a very close comparison and it depends what you're going to use the hard drive for. It seems that the IBM is better for gaming, and the Maxtor is better for business...

I really don't find it makes any more noise than the other hard drives I've had in the past. I have to say it's much quieter than the IBM Deskstar that I have slaved. When the IBM first boots up it makes a wierd, loud sound... but after a while it goes away completely. The Maxtor doesn't have...

What are you running to test it? None of my hard drives sound that bad. That's what my compaq from 2-3 years ago sounded like :)
