you sir have a very good understanding of the situation. People will always find ways to hurt each other, and gun is erroneously picked as the problem. There will not be a solution as long as people carry bad intentions, and I don't see that being solved as this is the way that we're created.

I just had a clean install on my system not too long ago, but one time while browsing the web, it redirects to a page that would not allow me to close (pop up question box won't go away). Even after I end the process, it now sometimes redirects and comes back. I've tried scanning for virus...

well, if he's confined in the room 100% then i agree with this. however i currently let her use all the common area (living room, kitchen, my projector, the study room), and he will probably take up more space in the garage too.
