These are bugs in the 1238 BIOS. I filed a support request with ASUS, but they blew me off with a lame response
pretty much as I expected they would. Thanks, ASUS.
So, I'm just gonna have to live with 3584MB of memory instead of 4096MB. Whatever...

I just realized (I'm slow) that I guess it would be helpful to also know what BIOS version is used.
So to summarize:
- BIOS version
- memory vendor & model.part number
- whether or not BIOS uses SPD when "Configure DRAM Timing by SPD" is set to...
