    confusion on cpu coolers

    a. The pre-applied paste is MX-1.. better than Arctic Silver 5 b. If you insist, just wipe it off. c. The cooler I linked above cools the same or better than the Frezzer Pro, is quieter and currently less expensive if you get that deal.

    SO MANY TEMPERATURES!~

I tried to answer this before, but see this thread for more detail.

    Lack of Heat?

If it's an L2 stepping E6400, then both TAT and CoreTemp 0.95 will both report temps 15C higher than SpeedFan 4.32 or CoreTemp 0.94. The first two use 100C as the Tjunction value and the second two use 85C as the Tjunction value. For the AS5 vs. ASC question, I'd refer you to what this AS...

    Lack of Heat?

Which cpu? Which version of CoreTemp? CoreTemp 0.95 will report temps 15C high for certain cpus. CoreTemp 0.94 will report temps 15C lower than CoreTemp 0.95 for certain cpus.

    Lack of Heat?

Yes, it should be. The fact that you're Idling at 50C (that's really high) indicates that you have a bad mounting... the heatsink is not getting hot/warm because it's not making good contact. You should remount it. Installation: 1. rotate all knobs clockwise (opposite direction of arrows)...

Ultra 120 eXtreme loses King of Coolers title

..I'd also note what should be obvious... "interest and discussion" are the result of reviews in most cases, not the other way around. If Scythe sent the Ninja out to be reviewed before release and/or Zalman sent the 9500 out to be reviewed prior to or at the time of release, then that would be...

Ultra 120 eXtreme loses King of Coolers title

Yep - there's hundreds (over time, or at least 'dozens' in an on-going basis) of heatsinks that never get reviewed on any site. Obviously the ones that get reviewed are the ones that are either foisted at the reviewers by manufacturers, or ones that show some promise/interest among the site's...

    Anandtech Enzotech Ultra-X Review

Ahh.. nice bit of revisionist history there, Vin? But here I am taking the bait again - sigh. Anyway, just in case you actually believe that bit of drama and to clarify it for anyone who didn't follow the earlier thread... My 'claim' was that multiple reviews were saying good things about...

what a decent cheap heatsink for my new c2d set up?

Wow, that's a a hell of a deal if you managed to get the rebate (expires 7/15)... actually works out closer to $18 shipped. It's an excelent cooler (light weight, small, quiet, good performing) for modest-to-moderate levels of overclocking.

Ultra 120 eXtreme loses King of Coolers title

...just for completeness sake, I didn't really account for the vga card drawing more wattage if doing heavy 3D rendering and such in my example above, but I think that's still well within the bounds.

Interesting note about the side-fan vs side-vent-only... You'd think the fan would help bring in air, but maybe it interacted oddly with the HSF (turbulence). I'm guessing you'd have to test both ways on each system to figure out what works best.
