Using an LCD TV as a monitor?

The 1080 in HDTV display modes is the vertical resolution. 1080i/p = 1920x1080. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDTV Why not just buy a Dell LCD monitor instead? It might be cheaper that way, unless this TV is also for other things, like actual television, DVDs, console games, etc (though all...

    E6600 lapping results

Are you only sanding certain spots at a time? That's the most difficult way to go about it. You're supposed tape your sandpaper over a piece of flat glass on a table, that way the paper will be flat, then hold your CPU in your hand and rub it across the paper on the glass. As it grinds down, the...

    E6600 lapping results

It's reflective like a mirror, but as you can see in the later pics there are still a lot of scratches on it. I've seen a lot of lapped chips that literally look like Windex'd glass mirrors. Pretty irrelevant to performance though. It took about two hours, listening to loud music helps :). It...

    E6600 lapping results

Lapped my E6600 today with this kit, good stuff and inexpensive. Pics: Getting the Scythe Infinity out of the P180s in and out without removing the board is a real ******. http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/659/r0010031aw1.jpg The HS after removing it.. you can see that there are some...

Best way to apply thermal grease?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the credit card/razor blade method? That gets it the most even. The drop in the middle seems like it would be confined only to the center of the heatspreader.

    *** Official ASUS P5B / P5B Deluxe Thread ***

For anyone having issues with getting AHCI working right and are stuck in slow-as-hell IDE mode, here's what I found out: For the P5B Deluxe from what I gathered from owners on other forums, the ICH8R AHCI drivers are included on the CD and need to be installed off a floppy disk (wtf who has...

Hard drive seems a little slower in new E6600 system

By IDE, you mean SATA? My HDD is SATA and my DVD drive is IDE (which I haven't noticed anything wrong with). I just updated to the latest BIOS a few minutes ago, I'll post if I see a difference. If it's not just me and there really is an issue, I'll see about getting a controller card.

Hard drive seems a little slower in new E6600 system

Just got my E6600 + Asus P5B vanilla + 2gb Corsair DDR2-800, but ever since I installed Windows, the HDD access has seemed a bit slow. It's as though the drive has to go through a lot of work to get data whereas it took less time when the same drive was in my 3.0 Northwood. It might just be...

E6600 poor IHS contact - needs a lapping

Perhaps, but I'm going to go for it anyways. Do I need to use as many different grits as the guy in that guide did? I only want to spend a few bucks on paper :P

E6600 poor IHS contact - needs a lapping

It may report inaccurately, but 2/3 of the heatspreader not making contact would affect temps nonetheless. Thanks for the link.

E6600 poor IHS contact - needs a lapping

My E6600 is idling at like 40-45C (according to my P5B's BIOS) at stock--and I have a Scythe Infinity. Shouldn't it be more like 30C? Anyways, when I take the HSF off the bottom is like 1/3 covered in paste, so the contact is pretty crappy. It's probably the IHS being concave and like many...
