Could anyone please report issues if you come across any with this 03 fw, pls?
Also, pls (while it may work ok) don't risk upgrading fw thru Magician desktop utility. Being aware of the risk, Samsung even made this simple guide on how to do it properly in the preboot environment -...
Main credit goes to you mate - Capt.Gil
My above post is a way of saying thanks to you! Good thinking! For a moment I thought I'd lost it. Thank you and darn them Samsung ppl.
Good news for some folks out there. As mentioned, I am from those who somehow survived the madness caused by Samsung's stupidity. The only damage to my 850 pro was that according to Magician the speeds and iops were somewhat halved. 300/500mb and 55k/55k iops. So once with the new fw there was...
alright ... let them take as long as they need so long as they give us a stable and bettered release of Windows, which sadly does not happen with every new release of Windows
Absolutely! Win7 is a great and stable release of Windows. Windows 8 and 8.1 are even faster somehow, but not as stable as 7. Just a tad too many issues with 8 and 8.1 in my eyes. The fact that 10 is going to offer itself as a free build-up of 7, means that it hopefully is going to be as stable...
@hhhd1 - yes exactly ... located right after the c partition, you said it yourself, but if it is not after the c partition, then you cannot do it live in Windows.
@Capt.Gil - thanks for the tip again. Ran the checker. It said
'Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100%...
Why did this crap happen to so many ppl then? If that is not the culprit, then it is the version of Magician ... 4.5. I'd wait till somebody actually tries out the ssdfill file ... no offence but i wanna stay on the safe side. Have had enough trouble with all the junk out there in the IT world...
A FW update for a drive ... especially a system drive, being used and active in the time of update should take place thru DOS in preboot environment, because the OS itself is running on the SSD at the time being, in case one decides to do the fw update from the desktop utility Magician. HOW...
Well, I am not too sure I wanna try this file so readily. Has anyone else tried it? Does it work? Can't just download a random .exe from the internet and execute it when one does not know the source of that file. Providing someone guarantees that the file is alright, then I might give it a try...
@Capt.Gil - that was indeed a precious tip. I did reinstall the Chipset drivers without any difference though. But then went on to install
1st the sp54478 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
and then the sp55101 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver [I got an HP notebook laptop]
after...
@Pwndenburg - Thanks! I too am of the lucky ones who survived the whole mess, but my ssd was the OS partition. Didn't have encryption either. Are your speeds and iops lower now with the new fw than they were with the old fw?
@TourGuide - thanks man! Happy to hear your drive runs as fast as it should without the need of reinstall.
@Capt.Gil - that is a precious tip! One to keep! Will try it soon and report back on the results! THANKS A LOT!
OK, thanks man! just to make sure I did not misunderstand you - did you have to do a reinstall of the OS or anything like that? Did your ssd die after the fw update or not? Mine did not die after the update, it just became slower .. so that is what I was asking you. To compare with you and with...
prolly .. u might be right. aint planning on a reinstall of OS for now though. just sitting and hoping the new FW would deliver us back the proper speeds and IOPS. still, thanks for the reply.
