There are experts out there that wonder if the difference between SAS/SCSI/SATA is nothing more than an interface and a price...meaning if you took the drives apart you would find exactly the same internals....reliability-wise the enterprise SATA HDDs and the SCSI/SAS HDDs are almost the same...
The 716SA had a lot of problems...I have 2 of them and they give me trouble every now and then...try updating the firmware...1.10 is out now....

You're wrong on the memory.... Corsair CM2X1024 6400C3 is considered one of the fastest memory modules out and it runs almost $500 at Newegg...over $500 at Monarch.

I have 5 WD 500GB RE2 HDDs in RAID-5. I haven't had a single failure. I did have a WD 400 GB RE2 HDD fail on me though...WD's RMA procedure is very very quick...
