Have you ever fixed something without knowing what you did?

Most of my stories are the exact opposite. Doing everything right, and it just gets worse.

    What is the CPU identifier...

A slot A Athlon, TBird or not, will fit on any slot A motherboard. At the very worst, you might have to do a BIOS update.

Does NT 4.0 automatically detect dual processors?

Its been awhile since I installed 4.0, but I had to start out with 1 CPU, install, add Service pack 3, and then add the second CPU. There is probably an easier way to do it, but I didn't find it. At the time, I thought it was a result of a motherboard flaw.

    USPSdelivery confirmation bites...

Had an RMA'ed mobo stuck at a branch office for 3 weeks. Can sometimes be a large pain in the butt. However, your stuff seems much more likely to arrive undamaged, as opposed to UPS.

On bootup, you have to choose which you are going to boot into. Usually, you would select one as your default boot OS. You must also remember, install WIN98SE first, and WIN2K afterward. As both programs are on different partitions, you can have each with the native drivers for that OS, and...

    Cheap RAM?

If you happen to be building an Athlon setup, you really have to be careful about the quality of the RAM you use. Athlons are not really fond of cheapo generic RAM

Harddrive problems with MSI K7T Pro2-A

I have read on other sites that upgrading to the new 2.2 BIOS has solved a lot of incompatibilty problems with the board. Might be worth your while to try it.

Question about hard drive noise insulation

Because I have two somewhat noisy drives, I used styrofoam insulation and enclosed the side of the drive cage. My case is large enough to allow this. It did cut down the noise of the drives and the drive cooling fans to a noticable degree.

    How much Memory?

MaximumPC mag did an article in the December issue with benchmarks which indicate that win98SE performance seems to max out between 128 and 192mb RAM, and WIN2000 loves 256.

Everyones selling hard drive coolers, are they worth buying?

I am running 10k SCSI drives(U2W), and they throw off a lot of heat. Complete drive coolers are, in my opinion, a must for really fast drives, not only to leep your system cooler, but to prolong the life of your drives.
