    Creating a system restore disc...

Crap. It seems like 2 discs is my only option. There must be something! What do the smaller system resellers use to make their restore discs? Eddie

    Creating a system restore disc...

Thank you Phil... thats what I'm up to at this point. Obviously now I know it can be done. I just wish there was an option that only required one dvd for simply restoring the operating system and drivers etc. Eddie

    Creating a system restore disc...

I downloaded the Acronis True Image demo, but I can't seem to figure out what I need it to do. I guess I just need to keep playing with it. What Calvin suggested is a good idea, but what if I can't even boot up the computer? What if the hard drive dies completely? Are dvds bootable?

    Creating a system restore disc...

Can anyone recommend any software that allows you to create a bootable system restore cd/dvd similar to what you would get when you purchase something like an HP system? Also, are DVD's bootable? My OS and all of my programs take up about 10 gigs once everything is installed the way I like...

best VHS to dvd or video file method

I've owned a few jvc dvs2u decks and actually encountered a few situations where the TBC needed to be turned off to facilitate proper VHS playback. Ah well. I'm glad we could finally argue intelligently abut it, although I think I owe you a few insults. I think any way you slice it, capturing...

    Building a video editing system...

Also, is it worth it to go with the 2mb of L2 cache versus 1mb? Price wise its only $70 more on a 3.2 ghz processor. Is there that much of a performance increase? Eddie

    Building a video editing system...

I'm building a new video editing system and my knowledge of memory specs is severely lacking. Does anyone have any specific memory recomendations for this sytem? Keep in mind video editing performance and more specifically video rendering is the highest priority. I also noticed that newegg...

Are integrated graphics ALWAYS the wrong choice?

I just built a 2.66 ghz p4 system with a cheapy motherboard with intergrated video. It was a budget system, so performance wasn't much of an issue, but if I had to do it again I would go with a dedicated video card..... even if it was only 32mb. Sometimes the lag between switching between...

best VHS to dvd or video file method

I still don't understand why you keep saying converting to DV is an "unneccessary step". Whether you convert to huffy or DV the work flow is still the same. The first step is capturing from VHS to your hard drive, encoding via either huffy or DV. Then you need to encode to mpeg2 for DVD. Unless...

best VHS to dvd or video file method

Cali time my friend. Another reason to not use huffy is compatibility with NLE programs. What happens if you drop a huffy encoded file onto the Premiere timeline? Or Vegas? Or Avid? I'm sure its not supported, you'll just get a big fat error. Eddie

best VHS to dvd or video file method

Holy crap this is funny! Yeah, you got me there, I've worked at blockbuster the last 5 years. How did you find me out? I'm not going to argue with you any more, its pretty pointless since you obviously know more than me. All I know is that after I'm done typing this reply I'm going to begin...

If I build a computer now, is it going to be out of date really soon?

If you keep waiting for the biggest and baddest technology, you'll never build anything. Theres always something bigger and badder around the corner. Always. Eddie

best VHS to dvd or video file method

HuffyUV is lossless, and takes up relatively little space. VHS->DV is an analog to analog transfer, and inherantly will make any noise and other distortions worse. It doesn't matter if DV is higher quality, analog to analog transfer will always add distortion. Capturing to disk via the "cheap...

You're right, he does have a capture card. In his own words a "cheap tv tuner". Which do you think has cleaner inputs, a $50 tv tuner card or a $1000 minidv cam? Second, getting from VHS onto MiniDV is as easy as hitting play on your VCR and record on your miniDV camera. Its better quality...
