    Avivo on the cheap

Hi, I'm putting a new C2D System together. Likely the E6400 w GS-965P-S2 etc. I'm not a gamer but do quite a bit of video encoding. Given that I could generally care less what video card I get, seems like I should opt for an X1K series and use Avivo. I plan to hook up a 20 or 21 inch...

Was a new revision of this guide posted around the 8th? If so, where? thanks!

    Not Mwave, Not Monarch, Where?

I'm looking to purchase a system with selected components, that is assembled and tested before delivery. I know both Mwave and Monarch offer this service? Is there anyone else as I can't find exactly what I want. Obviously I can just order everything individually. thanks

Stupid Question: Shuttle and OEM or Retail Processor

Thanks for the tip. I had heard about the USB port problem with the new Core 2 Duo Shuttle system. Did not realize it was an issue with the 27P2 also. Can you be more specific on the Artic Silver? Newegg has differnent styles and quantities. Which do you reccommend? Thanks

    7900GS in the Shuttle SN27P2

Given that I don't plan to OC, what is the best and quitest 7900GS for the SN27P2. The Shuttle site does not list any 7900GS in the compatibility list. thanks

Stupid Question: Shuttle and OEM or Retail Processor

I know I know, but just to confirm. I'm going to buy the Shuttle SN27P2. Newegg has the 64x2 4800+ OEM for $249 and the 64x2 4600+ Retail for $269. This is my first Shuttle system. In the past I always bought retail CPUs for the HSF. The Shutte comes with ICE cooling solution, so the OEM...

    Going cheap for my HTPC

Wisdomtooth, My order got cancelled today, because of some inacurate shipping costs. Anyway, gives me a chance to reconsider based on the AGP slot position. So how do you use these ribbon PCI cables? I see one end slips into the normal PCI slot. Does the other end with the hole just hang...

    Going cheap for my HTPC

Wisdom, Well, I went ahead and purchased the LC04 (not 02) last night. The extra bit of height did not bother me and I have an older DVD ROM I might throw into it. I was absolutely convinced I could use either 2 PCI or 1 & 1 (I purchased the optional 2 PCI riser). Now, I'm not so sure after...

    Going cheap for my HTPC

Wisdomtooth, Could you confirm for me that the ASUS A7V133 board in the LC02 will allow me to use either the 1 AGP and 1PCI riser, or 2 PCI risers. I've been staring at the pictures from: sundialmicro I think my board looks more like the first layout, which shows the Northbridge with...

    3500+ vs. P4 3.0Ghz HT

Hey, Toms hardware has a great video where they run a 3.0Ghz HT P4 processor against a 3.6Ghz P4 without HT. It shows how much faster the 3.0Ghz HT is. My question is, how would that HT P4 compare to the AMD 3000+ and 3500+ and stock speeds? hmm.... thanks,

    Going cheap for my HTPC

Wisdomtooth, Thanks for the tips. Dont think I really even need an optical drive in there. I'll just transfer everything I need to burn back to my main PC. Might you suggest a good "short" CPU cooler? I've had my hsf stuck to the AMD 1.33G for nearly 4 years. Hope I can pry it off! Also, I...

    Going cheap for my HTPC

Wisdomtooth, Ahh, I like that case and the LC04 which takes a full 5.25 optical drive. I also like the flexibility of 2 PCI or 1 ACP and 1PCI. I am considering the SIGMA XCard for video out. Question: Looking at the newegg site, newegglink I see one AGP riser (with extension) and one...
