well, need some help in organic chemistry

And to be even more correct, it should probably be 1,4-diphenyl-2-butyn-1,4-dione. But anyway, clarify the rest, and we'll see what we can do. :) And get to improving those naming skills! :)

    You mean 1,4-dioxo-1,4-diphenyl-2-butyne?

Ok, I'm pretty sure you're dealing with at Wittig reaction here, but you really need to be more clear and get your nomenclature correct, or else we can't help you. Is PPh3+ attached to the dione, or are you saying PPh3 PLUS all that other stuff? And it should be 1,4-dioxo-position...

System restore it back to before you installed the IDE Tool. Then uninstall the Entire Via busmaster controller and then restart.

    Weird slowdowns - nVidia bug?

What type of CD-ROM / CD-RW do you have? If it's an NEC, updated the firmware. That's a known issue with XP and those drives. Just a thought, but considering it didn't start happening until those two additions, it might not be a very good one...but still. :)

WinXP - Sudden Unmountable_boot_volume / unable to run recovery console.

If you can somehow get to the recovery console, chkdsk /r will be your best chance of fixing it.

Reformating my hard drive gets rid of all viruses (if any), yes?

The plural for virus is NOT virii, it's viruses. The word virii simply does not exist.

Start, right click my computer, manage. Then choose disk management on the left pane. On the right, you'll see your disks displayed. In the top portion, you can change the drive letters of your hard disks by right clickin the drive and selecting the obvious. In the bottome portion, you can...

I had the same probem. It's an IRQ conflict of sorts. Move your SB Live! into a different PCI slot.

    Via + Audigy + Win2k = ?

Nothing has helped. Newest BIOS for my Asus A7V (1008), newest 4in1s (4.32), newest drivers for everything. It didn't happen with Win98, but it happens with Win2k. I even tried using Standard PC instead of ACPI. No luck. And of course I have an SB Live!

I think my MTU is set to 9180. (?)

Since Win2k sees my DSL Modem as an ATM connection, I believe my MTU is at 9180. Not SURE, though. In the registry, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\Interfaces\{1D8E7004-5DE9-43BF-9F87-46B5DC6664D4} MTU = 9180. If my MTU is set to 9180, this is a bit high, no?
