Hey Mauiblue,
You are right. I currently have a Light On 40x12x48 CD Burner and a Pioneer DVD +-R recorder in my existing system that I will move over to the new one, then after the multi layer ones get sorted out by the end of the year I will replace the Pioneer with one of those. :)
Hello,
Building a new system and have been reading a lot of reviews and from what I can see this is what I am going with:
MOBO - MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum - 939 (I have read good and bad reviews on this board)
CPU - AMD FX53 -939
RAM - OCZ Performance Series Dual Channel Kit 184 Pin...
M4H,
I know dude, there are just assumptions sometimes. If he is a newbie and his is connected to the net via a cable modem and he wants to connect his other computer to this and he is using the internet sharing from Xp or Me then the firewall cababilities could suck if he doesnt have the XP...
It really shouldn't be an improvement unless you bought a Raptor or somthin with a higher RPM like 7500 to 10000. The only improvement you will notice would be a possibly cooler system since the SATA drives do not have the fat ribbons, they have small round ones which allows better air circulation.
Mercenary,
I was asuming that he at least had a Cable or DSL internet connection. Of course if it is just 2 computers you dont need a firewall. But if he is using a HS connection then the collision and firewall question is answered if both are using the net. If it is ONLY 2 computers, then you...
I would def go with the switch. Reasoning is as follows:
1. The switch handles packet collisions and you will have a more stable system.
2. It allows you more flexibility for future expansion.
3. Gives you a semi decent firewall.

Thanks for the advice. I have always used the Intel chipset for my needs and was looking to branch out since I have read every pieve of info on here and many other sites including ZD and Toms. The prob if I wait for the new board is that they may not have the AGP slot any more becuase of PCI...
I am going to do a new build of a system. What I am looking at is:
PROC - AMD Athlon 64 FX-51
MoBo - ASUS SK8V
HD - WD Raptor 74GB 10,000 SATA - As just the boot and OS drive.
CASE - Cool Master TAC-T01-E1C
RAM - Mushkin HP Black Registered 3200 memory (512MB x 4)
GPU - ATI 9800 Pro AIW
OS -...
Hey Ornery,
I think you should listen to some of these guys in here. Look at my posts under skipper2 on page 2 of this forum. I have ALWAYS used Intel, even before the Pentium days. I also always use dell's. If you don't believe me contact me via private email and ill give you access to my...
Thanks guys, I am sorry about the ME thing. I just wanted to stress that it was for my needs because I know there are a lot of people that are partial to either AMD or Intel and wanted to just stress that it was for what I want in a computer. I have asked this question before and have had some...
