Well actually to be exact, the 9700pro is LESS than 2 years old since it came out in mid-august of 2002... sorry to get nitpicky though ;) .
I do agree though that the 9700pro is still one of the best cards out. It is not a mid-range card.... those still clearly belong to the 9500/9600 &...
There you go. If I wanted the best of the best I would get a A64 or high end P4. But why do that when you can get a $70-100 chip, overclock it and near the performance of the high end chips? The fact that my $90 2.5ghz barton can hang with a $250+ Intel 3.2ghz in some aspects is just amazing IMO.
Yea the ti4800SE's weren't too shabby. I had a Gainward one and it overclocked to ~330/740ish.... best GeForce4 made as far as I'm concerned. If those cards could have taken less of a hit from AA/AF, I'd probably still have it today.
I just ordered a 1.35V 2400+ yesterday and it should be here by Thursday... hopefully I'll be able to get over 2.5ghz.
Holy crap!! Just ordered one of those too! Damn thats a good deal. Came to $26 after shipping.... now its time to fine a nice 92mm fan. Thanks for the link.
9800pro.... better PS2.0 support and AA than the 59xx cards. The 5900 cards are pretty good performers, but I would never consider buying one unless it was cheaper than a 9800pro.
Heh he said 23F not C ;), but if that was in celcius I would definitely kick the card to the curb . If you get the zalman make sure to get a fan with it.... it is highly recommended to have a fan with the heatpipe on 5800/5900 cards.
Running two 37gb raptors on a SiI3112 controller (from NF7-S) in a 32k stripe and it has worked flawlessly so far (although it has only been a week heh). They are amazingly fast... it loads a battlefield vietnam map in about 10 seconds or so. I've also had two WD 80gig 8mb cahce drives running...
