yeah, Imgburn is your best bet for that kind of thing. There are countless others as well that will handle them just fine. cdburnerxp, and even Windows7 has image burning built in now.
For a desktop gadget, I don't have any suggestions.
For an email checker/notifier, etc..., I have been using Digsby for a while now. Keeps track of all kinds of IM, social networking, yadda yadda...

there's a program called scan2pdf. I'm at work, so I can't verify that it actually does what that seems to imply. Try it out and see what you get.
it just depends on what you want to do with the card. it will work just fine with most of the ~2 year old games and obviously be fine for anything web, or office productivity related.
i remember a while back when sapphire was releasing stuff for the first time.
i've not heard much bad about rosewill, but i guess it just depends on how much you'd be saving as to how much you want to risk.
comparing some on newegg - theres an xfx w/ dual DVI for a couple bux less...
