This actually has nothing to do with SBC being "slick". The distance requirements are part of the DSL spec. The distance between you and the CO is the major factor in what speeds you can get. Even if they let you upgrade to the expert package, you wouldn't be able to reliably achieve those...

I think (I'm not possitive) that most software read the firmware to determine the drive that it's trying to detect. So if your cdrom drive's firmware says HP 40X that software will think that it's an HP and not a Plextor and therefore not recognize it. I went to GoldenHawk's website (maker of...
Ok, I just opened up the my case to look at the label on the drive. Here is what is says:
Hewlett Packard 5064-7222
Pluggable SCSI PX-40TSi
I booted up the computer and went into the SCSI utility and here is what it says:
HP CD-ROM CD40X
