Research , development , production , advertising and distributing it all costs a bundle. $500 is fair considering the crowd the product is aimed at , enthusiasts or ppl with no cash restraints.

Do you have Truform turned on in D3D or OpenGL ? that worthless feature causes skipping , and what version are you Drivers ?

i noticed on some of the benchmarks that even when it loses , it still has a good fps avg
