    Processor without heatsink?

thanks for the replies guys, i dont think i want to risk it, i might as well wait for the zalman or use the stock heatsink for now. I just never cleaned the thermal compound off the processor, so i was trying to avoid that, but hopefully it's not that difficult

    Processor without heatsink?

Hi guys, I was just wondering, if I want to test a processor on a mobo, and only want to check if it boots up, is it ok if I test it with the processor, mobo, ram and graphic card, without a heatsink? how hot would it get if I only access bios Thanks in advance

Hi Stavesacre, 1st of all nice mobo xD Your problem to me seems like graphics card or power, because your system looks solid and moderately overclocked. i dont think you need all that overvoltage and heat. recommendation: get a 8800 from a B&M store just for testing and return it once...

actually C1E will use ur lowest multiplier (in my case 6x) times the FSB per multiplier u set (in my case 400mhz). so if i got C1E enabled, when idle, it uses 2.4ghz=6x400mhz. under stress C1E will bump it to 9x mutliplier making it 3.6ghz=9x400mhz. The EIST on the other hand is the one thats...

yep i read previous posts and had missed it. I turned it off, bumped the voltage in bios and tested from 1.35 to 1.375, 1 level at a time, and it seems like i found the sweet spot. 1.375v in bios, shows up as 1.328 idle on CPU-Z and 1.296 load. i think thats within intel's recommended voltage...

IDE can only go at the speeds it is specified, even if u convert it to sata mode. thats pretty much saying if you put a nissan engine in a ferrari, it wont be a ferrari (i know cheesy example xD)

i might do what u did at the end (OS on drive 1, games and others on RAID0) does it make that much of a difference between: 1) 2 hard drives in RAID0 and everything on 2) 3 hard drives, 1 IDE mode and OS installed on it, and 2 RAID0 with other stuff on it thanks

ohh i forgot about vdroop. i think mine goes up when stressed but i dont remember if it went to 1.3 i do remember seeing it at 1.2xxx but im guessing i have something enabled to play around with the voltage when idle...i will check it once i get home to be more precise. also you have 4...
