Thanks for the responses! I ended up sorting this out by playing with the board over the weekend. Just as Peter said, XP ignores the HPET setting. I set it to 64 bit mode and it works fine with dual booting Vista 64 bit and XP 32 bit.

Thanks for the tip! Everything works fine now. It was a real pain to remember to disconnect it before each reboot.

My build with this board has gone fine except for one huge issue. I could not increase the FSB (not even 1 MHz) without the infamous double boot which reset the OC settings. This looks like the same issue that has occured with the P35 DS3L as described in this thread...

I have a Gigabyte GA-EX38-DS4 motherboard that I'm setting up to dual boot with XP Pro 32bit and Vista Ultimate 64bit. How should I configure the HPET mode? On or Off? 32bit or 64bit mode? I know that XP does not use HPET, so does it just ignore the setting? Thanks for any help!!!

I think the sleep issue is a known Vista problem. Try googling "Vista sleep issues" and you will get a ton of hits on this subject.
