Well, I went ahead and installed it.
The DirectX installation looks for components to update. Of course it didn't find any and finished without doing anything. Then I proceeded to install the game and it works fine.
I just tried installing Civilization IV (game of the year boxed edition) on Windows 7 (RC) and at the very beginning of the process, it says "Setup has determined that you need to install DirectX".
I pressed cancel, and it cancels setup. I also tried to cancel out of just the DirectX part of...
I've used BartPE several times in the past, and I was just about to make a new build with updated plugins. Then I found something called "Reatogo-X-PE" which is basically from a guy that had his own free, custom BartPE bundled with 500 plugins available. In researching whether or not that was...
Yeah, I think the UPS was the problem. It hasn't shut off since moving to a surge protector. Yay! Thanks for the suggestion.
Now the question is, what do I do with this UPS?
Well, after I got home yesterday, I moved the PC from the UPS to a surge protector. It did not shut down last night. I don't want to cheer just yet... the next few days will be very telling. But it's certainly something that generates some hope.
I'll try the surge protector idea for sure.
As for the indexing, is just the normal indexing that Windows XP and Windows Vista do for file searches. I don't attribute this problem to that, because my PC is idle during the day as well and I only discover it shut off in the morning, never...
I just started having trouble about two weeks ago where my desktop PC is powering off at night. Not every night, but I would say two out of three nights or three out of four.
A few days ago, I went to go on the PC around 7:30am and it was off. I powered it on and it gave me the error that...
Hmmm... Maybe it was a Samba or Linux problem after all. A few days ago I upgraded my Debian box. I just tried to upgrade it again and voila... the only things upgraded since a few days ago were some samba-related packages. Installed them and now I see all my folders again.
Oh, I should mention I have already changed the Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level to "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated."
I don't know if this is a Vista problem or a Samba problem. All I know is that it worked fine when I had XP.
I have a file server running on Debian. I put most of my downloads there as well as my music. I had been using iTunes, and it was a restore of my database from my XP install so...
jon, I think people just don't care. For many people, they don't hear what you are talking about or don't think it's so bad they have to go drop money on a sound card.
I had an Audigy in my old system from late '01, but I stuck with the Realtek onboard audio (the "HD" version, for whatever that is worth) for my new system I built in February. To be honest, the only difference I have noticed is when there is no sound at all. I can hear a bit of hiss and...
