Sounds like you did everything right. You may want to try different media, some cds have the label come off of them i.e. PNY imation Sony are good memorex are good, never tried acer, also make sure you are running no other programs and a personal suggestion, get nero, its a lot better than adaptec

Tried Linux, didnt' like it, but I love XP, never crashes.

The best would probobly be a geforce2mx, very cheap and can overclock good.
