    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

It’s called semicustom for a reason. Sony and MS will use off the shelf AMD IP (read: logic blocks) to build their custom APUs. It’s not like they are developing a SoC where every major block is new for each customer. Think legos.

lol, I totally forgot about that. Been so busy with work that I haven't been paying much attention to hardware news as much.

Should be a typo. Verona is an Italian city, not Verano, just like Naples, Rome, Milan, Genoa, Bergamo, Siena, and Turin. Once AMD drops the official press packet, we can confirm the spelling.

    Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

I don't think we're in disagreement here. My statement was in belief that console developers will try to optimize their textures to fit within VRAM, hopefully by using AI upscaling judiciously, while on PC they won't give a crap and will just let textures bloat.

For PC games, I can believe that. I hope for consoles, developers choose to make the most of what hardware they have.

If AI upscaling of lower resolution textures takes off, it ought to reduce memory footprint demands I think.

Yeah, I suspect that we'd get 24 GB consoles next, but utilizing a 256-bit bus and 3 GB memory chips. Reserve 20 GB for games and I think we'd be in a good place for 4K gaming.

Here's the image from the Xitter post, which shows 12 core CCDs with 48 MB L3 cache. It also looks like there's multiple IODs on package.

Yeah, that’s my understanding. Basically, there’s not enough 18A capacity if they used it purely for themselves and they want to reserve capacity for potential IFS customers. The only way this works is because TSMC let’s them be a customer, ironically.

Discussion Leading Edge Foundry Node advances (TSMC, Samsung Foundry, Intel) - [2020 - 2025]

Looks like LBT is going good on his word to make staff cuts at Intel. Would be curious to know how the cuts are distributed since there's foundry and design sides. My understanding is that the foundry side employs more people than the design side...

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

Yeah, AMD doesn’t need to go for a moonshot product. Just improve where Zen 5 was weak, i.e. IO die, and make an incremental but logical gain in its strengths.

Yeah, I had a brain fart moment there. My mistake.:(
