Maybe try win2k? I was very surprized when I installed it on laptop with 96M and 233MHz, and it was even able to run Office 2000!

I was able to run some games w/o reinstalling them : MOHAA, SoF2 Most of the other programs require reinstall. If your windows ran 1 year, it's about time to change the oil (i.e. do a reformat).

Maybe you should go with kt133a, like ecs k7vza. It is less picky abiut power supply , and it also has 3 sdram slots vs only 2 slots of k7s5a, so you will be able to add some more memory in future (sdram is still twice cheaper than DDR). And don't buy a new ps before you try the old one.

K7VZA is KT133A mobo. I have it for 1 year, no problems. You can find it on pricewatch, but it is expensive there - about $70. You can also try ebay, there must be people dumping them cheap because it is time to upgrade.

I agree that buying mb and cpu there is not a good idea, but you may consider buying case with PSU - you will save a lot of money on shipping, and you will also can see and touch the case before buying.

I also had similar problems, also BSOD, also in ntoskrnl. My suggestions: 1. Try memtest86 2. Next time you reinstall windows don't install 3rd party drivers, try to use only drivers which come with Windows

If you don't know what the charachter interface is, don't even try it for now, go with Mandrake and KDE. Just add 64M of memory and it will fly!

If you hate windows - try "ratpoison". It's like windows 1.0 - doesn't support overlapping windows It supports only fullscreen or tiled windows.

Also consider ECS K7VZA rev 3.0 - it has 3 SDRAM slots, price is about $70.
