    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

Leaving the voltage on auto was causing the major heat increase. I notice the voltage was running at 1.168 in the BIOS so the closest I could set it to that is 1.170. Does this sound about right? It looks like I may have set the voltage too low. From what I was reading it should have been 1.250...

    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

For $15 is it a no brainer upgrade. I think I will order the CNPS5X tomorrow.

    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

If I am understanding the installation correctly on the ZALMAN I would be able to install it without removing the board. It doesn't seem to use a back plate like the others. I am shocked at the prices. I guess I was looking at models that were overkill.

    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

As far as I know that is using the stock voltage. The only thing I changed was changing the multiplier from 33 to 40. I will load the "BIOS" defaults just to be sure and try again.

    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

Well at stock speeds with the retail HSF this is what I am getting. Idle: High 30Cs (Like 37 to 38C per core) Load: High 50C (That is checking the temps right after some long gaming. I can see what the temps were running over the last minute.) When setting the clock to 4 GHz Idle: High...

    Core i5 2500K HSF upgrade

So I ended up getting the Core i5 2500k. I wasn't really planning on OCing much so I just went with the retail HSF that came with it. I did clock it up to 4 GHz and it ran just fine. Not too happy about the temps though. I don't plan on really pushing it much. I would be happy at 4 GHz but...

    Major upgrade help

Yes a new HSF would lower the temps of the CPU but does nothing to solve the heat being generated by the CPU. The Q6600 is simply a hot chip and all the heat needs to go some place. That some place is venting into my room. In hindsight pairing the Q6600 with the 8800GT wasn't a good idea...

    Major upgrade help

The situation as to why it needs to happen now is a complicated one. If it was just that I had $600 sitting around for this then yes I would agree.

    Major upgrade help

My window to do this is very small as in the next week at most. Otherwise I will not have a chance to do this for at least another year. With how hot my CPU and GPU are after long gaming sessions I don't want to chance pushing that date out. I did forgot about some promo codes and after...

    Core i5 2400 OCing

Thank you for the feedback. After applying some promo codes I almost forgot about I changed the CPU to a 2500K. Don't plan on pushing it all that far to keep the heat generation down. My Q6600 gets pretty brutal with the heat it kicks into the room after some long gaming. I keep hearing the...

    Core i5 2400 OCing

Now I know the none K series are not unlocked but from the AnandTech article the none Ks are noted as having limited OC via turbo. The example chart for this used the Core i5 2500. If I am understanding this correctly then a Core i5 2400 using this limited turbo OC its turbo clocks would then be...

    Major upgrade help

Thank you for the idea but I don't have access to a educational email. I may re-use my install of Vista on another PC if possible. I can't stay running on XP forever.

    Major upgrade help

    1. What YOUR PC will be used for. Its primary purpose will be to play SWTOR and later Guild Wars 2. Yes I know two games that are not out yet nor are the system specs known as well. My hope is that the new parts will generate less heat. I live in Las Vegas and after some long gaming sessions...
