why would a cdrom be connected directly to a sound card? sounds strange to me, unless they only read audio cds...

Could be the media as well. Not all 24x media will burn at 24x..... um, this is totally untrue, you could burn at 24x on 8x media, theres just no guarentee that the data will be consistent i burn at 24x on 16x media most of the time with no problem. 24x drives start at 16x anyway and only get...
