I have had two Aiwas and they do tend to skip more than others but if you have the money the Blaupunkts are #1 in my book.. I've had the same Key West Blau since I was 18 and it has plenty of power and has never let me down and barely ever skips..
Sony Xplod units are crap but the Xplod series...
I would look at the newer Kenwood or Aiwa MP3 CD Players.. Aiwa has a neato motorized faced CD/MP3 player for under $200 w/remote and Kenwood has a new MP3 player with the spring loaded flip face for around $250-$300..
