You may re-format your hard drive. Probably, the system has some error while recognize the drive capacity.

Green is cooler than Black but Black is faster than Green. Seagate drive price is not much different with WDC, it's better to choose WDC.

The only con of Raptors series is only their capacity. You should keep your old Raptor and use it as your backup data. For a new one choosing Caviar green (good durability) or blue (good performances) is OK since velociRaptor is more expensive.

I didn't use Hitachi HD yet, that HD doesn't have a good reviews so far. How about WD Caviar Green, it performed well in my CPU :-)

I've been used WD so far, black and green. Both of them don't give me any problem. For desktop computer, Barracuda is performing well too.

To run defragmentation effectively, you must leave free disk space at least 15% of total capacity. Altenatively, you can use defragger if you dont have 15% free space.

256MB RAM running on XP??? (O_O), like mpilchfamily say that you can defrag your computer or free more space for your data to breath but it does not help much. I only worry about your laptop, maybe you can replace your laptop with the better one?

I dont think Caviar Green is suit for gaming, try using Caviar Black, another option after VelociRaptor.

Its better to use new drive to store files since old drive' failure rate higher than the new.

There's something wrong on your USB port, this is the first time i know this issue. I think short circuit occurred when you try to plug USB device in the port. Maybe you can replace with a new one.
