The *Official* MSI K8NGM2-FID GeForce 6150 Motherboard Thread

yep, going back there were several people with this problem. I tried clearing cmos, battery, power supply, 5 kinds of ram in the first slot, hooking a floppy to it for recovery mode, changing the cpu, and tried booting with a PCI and and a PCI Express video card installed. I even reflashed...

Wow, that was Nov 2008 you posted your cap problems, LOL Glad it came back for you though :-) The one FID I recapped, I'm typing on it now, it's still running great. I sure wish somebody knew what the long slow blinking power LED is though. My other FID, even recapped, still will only...

Well , one of my FID boards survived with a recap, typing on it now. Other one is history - it has new caps but is still dead as a doornail with no post at all, and the long blinking mysterious LED... That one is now replaced (HTPC) with an Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 with a phenomII OMG -...

Tried that too, no luck To clarify - when you turn on the POWER SUPPLY, the case power LED immediately starts blinking slowly. Pressing the "ON" button makes no difference at all. The only thing I didn't replace is the FID at this point. The board was recapped a while ago.

There were a pile of posts a while back about the FID just going dead, with the power led blinking slowly. One of my FIDs just did this... No post, no beeps, no fans, just blinking power LED Already tried swapping the power supply, cpu, and ram, and hitting the bios reset button a...

... answering my own question - I also have an Asus A8N-VM (6150) here, and it only uses 1500 microfarad caps by the CPU. ( and they are still good ) Both my MSI K8NGM2-FID boards, V1 and V2, have 3300 microfarad caps. They are popping / swelling / oozing. The MSI supplied caps are twice...

Wow renethx, I wasn't expecting any action at all here, by now :-) Both of my FID boards are dead now, from blown caps behind the CPU. I am going to try re-capping them though. I thought they were 1800 microfarad 6.3v - but it appears 3300 seems to be the value floating around for replacing...

If your P/S doesn't put out correct standby voltage then your computer will go dead in standby mode, that's why I bet on that one. Power supplies are cheap, nice to have a spare anyway. Fortron or Sparkle 400w 120mm is about 30 bucks, very nice, quiet power supply (Canada)...

Changing the BIOS to S3 -before- installing XP is mandatory if you every want it to work right, so you're on the right track there. Dunno about Vista. Vista only survived on my box for 4 days, then I went back to XP. Didn't like it... Standby does work perfect, I have two of these FID...

Mine's been on DVI 1920x1200 since the day I got it many moons ago. (I've tried the Y Pr PB , sVideo, and the VGA port as well, all work fine, actually) I know that doesn't solve your problem, but it's good to know that it ought to work before beating your head against the wall... lol...

It SURE WOULD BE NICE to have manual voltage control of the cpu though, wouldn't it? Too bad no "bios hacker" types picked up this board...

The CPU voltage is derived from the 5v rail of the power supply, with regulation on the board to step it down to 1.35v. My numbers jump around an insane amount too, with a couple really decent Antec power supplys... so (personally) I don't think it's a PS issue. It could just be that how...
