Why does Nvidia sandbag their cards when revealing a new generation?

Basically this. The Super cards were the perfect example. All the reviewers tested them, posted articles and videos. That wouldn't have happened if they had just adjusted the price of their existing cards. Nvidia's just being savvy and trying to keep the attention on them. It can be a little...

Question 'Ampere'/Next-gen gaming uarch speculation thread

I haven't used an Nvidia GPU in almost 10 years. But I gotta say, between the AI and RT features, and the promise of 2089 Ti level performance, I'm reeeeally tempted by the 3070. If AMD can't bring the same performance and feature set at that price point, I may just switch from red to green.

    Question Are these junk??

Having just read @DAPUNISHER 's recent thread on the significance of cleaning out drivers when you install a new GPU made me think back to this thread and a couple things you said: These may be related. If you didn't reinstall your drivers when going between a 1070 and 1060, when did you last...

    Question Ryzen 7 1700 OC

3.5 isn't even up to the stock boost clock of the 1700 (3.7). If you have decent cooling the CPU could be sustaining 3.6-3.7 GHz at stock under load, so you're effectively downclocking.

    Radeon Software Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.8.3 - [20.20.27.01] - 27/08/20

Still waiting on them to bring in hardware scheduling to the main driver release, it seems. One interesting thing is that they note Vega's poor performance in Horizon Zero Dawn as a known issue. Hardware Unboxed found that Vega did really poorly when testing that game, barely better or even...

    Goodbye NX, hello Switch

Animal Crossing probably made them all the money they need and they could just sleep through the rest of 2020 and still turn a profit.

    The anti-DRM thread

Given Crytek's recent financial woes, they probably needed the immediate cash of the exclusivity deal.

    Question Are these junk??

There's no "guarantee" that the RDNA 2 launch will be any smoother than RDNA 1. All I can say is that I've never had any issues with AMD graphics cards. I've seen tech Youtubers like GamersNexus and Jayztwocents talk about the problems they had with the drivers, but then there's Hardware...

    Question Are these junk??

I didn't have to jump through any hoops, no. I basically built a new system which included the 5700 XT. I'm a longtime AMD user though, used a Radeon R9 290X for like 5 years, before that had a Radeon HD 7870, and before that was a Radeon HD 5770. I haven't used Nvidia since owning a 9800 GT...

    Question Are these junk??

I've had a Sapphire Pulse 5700 XT for a few months now. I use it with two monitors, and it has yet to give me any problems, I'm quite happy with it. That ASRock Challenger model is a non-XT chip, meaning it has fewer stream processors (2304 vs 2560) and a lower locked max clock speed. And...

Question Can an i7 2600K support a modern high end graphics cards?

Bear in mind they tested at stock speeds. Sandy Bridge K chips have about 1 GHz of overclocking head room. Any 2500K/2600K user with a lick of sense should be overclocking their CPU. What I find interesting though was that one or two games actually ran better on the 2500K than the 2600K. I had...

Question Question about the GPU Bench on anandtech site

Yeah with those specs you shouldn't be in a huge rush to upgrade. It just comes down to PUBG's optimization being a dumpster fire no matter what hardware you play it on.

Question Question about the GPU Bench on anandtech site

No, it doesn't appear that any of the games in Anandtech's benchmark database for the past few years use Unreal Engine 4. I know that Techspot/ Hardware Unboxed uses two UE4 games, Jedi Fallen Order and Gears of War 5, in their recent reviews. I don't think they have an easily browsable database...

Question How many cores are you operating with on your PERSONAL PC at home?

Have we had high performance 8 core/16 thread consoles for the last 6.5 years? That's my point. We have seen games move towards better thread utilization with the adoption of DX12/Vulkan over the past few years. What we've been needing is a big push to really get developers to invest and design...

Question How many cores are you operating with on your PERSONAL PC at home?

    8. Got an 8 core 3rd gen Ryzen in preparation for the PS5/Xbox Series X/S having 8 core Ryzen CPUs. I'm anticipating that once 16 high performance threads becomes the standard on consoles as opposed to the 8 anemic threads consoles have now, combined with Vulkan/DX12, we'll see much better...
