For anyone that missed this deal & has a Fry's close by, they are having a sale on their Brix & NUCs.
Brix (except the first 2 on that page)
i5 NUC - $269 (CCC - $335)
i3 NUC - $189 (CCC - $279)
Is this one of those Lenovo models that has the 16 GB (or some other size) mSATA drive to speed up system performance?
My Y500 had that disk die & it wouldnt go past the bios. Went in and by trial and error pulled out RAM, HDD, etc. one by one and the moment I removed that drive, it booted up...
The new NUC (i5-4250U with 2.5" drive bay) that's coming out on the 24th just dropped by $50 to $399 on Amazon.

I was just looking at NUCs and noticed the first generation one with thunderbolt is now $175. Which means with 8 GB RAM and a 120 GB mSATA drive. I can have one up and running with OpenELEC for about $380.
I am mainly looking to run XBMC (or 2 instances...one on each tv) and a PVR backend with...
Both.
It's been a while since I've used it on a PC, but if I remember correctly, it has a live mode for you to try it out. If you like it, you can move on to persistant(installed) version of the OS.
I'm really torn between the NUC and the Zotac ID-42 or 42-Plus. However I cannot find a release date for the Zotac.
After pricing things out this morning, I think I am gonna wait another couple of weeks and buy whatever is on the market at that point.
I have the itso, honestly go for the expedit...it's the one case where the ikea product is actually sturdier than the competition.
the expedia also comes in the 1*X or 2*X or Square configs.
