"How does Qfan control fan speed - by CPU temp, by RPM"
You can set it so it ramps up the fan RPM at a specific temperature.
So I could set the threshold at 50C and it would start spinning faster until the temperature dropped back below 50C.
Is it normal for the two CPU tests to be that different? I had similar variances in mine.
CPU1 - Red Valley - .859 fps
CPU2 - Red Valley - 1.340 fps
This is for E6400@3.2G with a 7900GT
My core system is nearly identical to yours (ASUS P5B, E6400 and 2Gig of Corsair XMS2 PC-6400 RAM) though I'm also a semi-newbie.
You haven't mentioned any temperatures yet. What are your CPU and motherboard temps during these tests?
As long as they are <55-60c under full load, you can...
I guess my title is somewhat misleading.
I'm not looking for a manually controlled fan. I just want one that can be controlled by Qfan with a higher top-end cfm. The Infinity fan just sits at 1200rpm regardless of load.
The fan that came with the Infinity does a good job and is quiet, but I'd rather have one that I can hook up to the Qfan on my Asus P5B Deluxe so it will ramp up the fan speed under heavy load.
Most of the posts I've seen here are for 3-pin fins. What is a good 4-pin fan that would be a good...
I'd like to add a fan to the heatsink to help with cooling (either with a new heatsink/fan combo or adding a fan to the current setup). The northbridge is probably the hottest thing in my system right now.
The heatpipes definitely help, but additional air flow would help even more.
As you can see in this pic, the Infinity overhangs the Northbridge heatsink. I was looking at several coolers, but I'm not sure any of them will work in conjuction with the Infinity.

Does anyone with this setup have a NB cooler they could...
One thing to double check is the ability of the P5B Deluxe to recognize 4G of memory.
In the manual it states that it if you install 4 1GB manuals on Win XP 32-bit version, it may recognize less than 3G of memory so they recommend installing <3G.
I have the P5B Deluxe board and I love it...
I thought I'd throw in a vote for my current case, the Thermaltake Armor Series
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811133154
It is a huge case, with a ton of room inside for expansoin and air flow. It also comes with 2 120MM and 2 90MM fans.
Newegg has it for $125...
I feel like quite the idiot. After I reseated the heatsink the last time, I installed the CPU fan backwards resulting really bad air flow issues.
Reinstalling it correctly lowered the Orthos temps to 55C where they are holding steady after 6 hours. I still wish I had lower idle temps, but I...
I recently put together the following system:
Asus P5B Deluxe Wifi
Core2Duo E6400
Scythe Infinity
2G Corsair PC-6400 RAM
Thermaltake Armor series case
When I bumped the FSB up to 400, I had to raise Vcore to 1.325 to avoid rounding errors in SuperPi and Orthos.
At 1.325Vcore, the...
On the left side of the monitor, there is a thin vertical purple line that runs from top to bottom.
Initially, I thought it was an entire line of dead pixels, but upon closer inspection I think it is a case of the LCD screen not being fully covered by the frame of the monitor.
If I do a...
After doing a bit more research, I downloaded CPU-Z and it is showing the memory running at PC-6400 settings (400MHZ 1:1 4/4/4/12 in the Memory Tab).
So I am assuming that it is running at the correct speeds and that the post message is an anomaly, but I'd be happier if I had some...
