    Stupid Ebay Sellers

He thought a socket-473 to 478 P4 adapter actually converted a socket-A motherboard to socket-478. He is stupid because he completely made up everything on the sale page to get a sale. I'd hate to see someone actually buy it and try to use it that way.

    Stupid Ebay Sellers

I was looking around eBay today and I found this little gem. http://tinyurl.com/7rl8z "It's that easy!"

help! bad internet in atlanta (comcast)

Do you happen to have a wireless router or access point? If I put mine on channel 11, it interferes with the modem and it works like you describe.

    System will not start

I recently got some eMachines parts from a friend. Among them was a motherboard/CPU pair. The motherboard was the standard HP/Emachines/Compaq TriGem "Imperial Rev. G" model. The CPU is a Celeron-A 2.3GHz. (Old, but great for my grandparents who want an upgrade from their Pentium II laptop.)...

new win2k install on large HD

Get your chipset's latest IDE controller drivers. I recently got a Seagate 160GB and it took NVIDIA's newest Nforce drivers to recognize all of it.

    Old Compaq won't turn off

An old early-ATX system I have did this by default (P2 266). Under Power Management in Control panel, enable Advanced Power Management (APM). It's on one of the tabs there. If it's not, it's AT.

    Floopy Drives Must Die

I only own one PC without a floppy. All others I have built, for myself or others, include a floppy. They can't hurt at all, if anything, they help in emergency situations. Hell, one of my old Linux machines has a 5.25" drive to read C64 disks. :) Edit: I have that Supermicro board...

    9600XT Driver Issue

Checked this same problem elsewhere. All the startup options for ATI are enabled in msconfig, which sometimes causes this. Also, I do have a TV connected to the S-video output, but it is disabled. The card runs at 41 idle, 45 in-game with Far Cry. Silencer at full speed. Anything?!

    9600XT Driver Issue

Title pretty much sums it up. I recently installed an Arctic Cooling VGA Sikencer Rev3 on it. Although I only noticed it being gone today. It used to be there. Anything?

Suggest a site for trouble shooting a game port or the Win98se OS' implementation of the game port?

Check the BIOS on the board. Some boards with an integrated GP have a "disabled/enabled" setting for it. Usually under "Integrated Peripherals". Good luck. -Random

    Arctic Cooling VGA Silencer

I'm thinking about getting the Arctic Cooling "VGA Silencer" for 2 reasons: it's cheaper than most, and is built quieter than the "ATI Silencer 2" from them. Before I buy this: will it fit on the ATI "brand" 9600XT? AC's site has barely any info on it, and neither does anyone else. Thanks...

    Does old SDRAM Deteriorate?

I was given 2 old machines. Each had a formatted hard drive, and Windows 2000 Pro would not install on either. They had 64MB (P2 266Mhz) and 256MB (P3 1GHz) of PC100 SDRAM. I got lots of "corrupt CD or file" errors while trying to install. if it did complete, even after those errors, Windows...

    Seagate Cheetah SCSI Drive

Thanks a ton man. I plan on buying the 19160. I'll keep the drive for now since I only use it to back up my music, and it's faster than the old ATA-33 Maxtor in my backup "server" now. -Random

    Seagate Cheetah SCSI Drive

I bought a Seagate Cheetah ST39102LW surplus for $7. I plugged it into a molex and no spinning-up vibrations or noise. I notice that there is a jumper for 'remot motor start enable" that turns on the spindle motor when the controller is present. This jumper, however, is not shorted. It should...

    No POST, No Video

Yeah. I just took a good look under a magnifying glass. 2 MOSFETs are completely burnt and cracked. Looks like he didn't fully insert the stick of RAM (you cant lock it in all the way with a video card in the AGP slot) and it killed the board. Just ordered a new one. Thanks, Random
