I have a pretty old laptop, Alienware 51-M I got in 2002. Not using it anymore, I'm guessing it's not worth much, can you get a tax credit for donating it, is there somewhere to scrap it, do people buy these things for parts? The only useful part is probably the 1600x1200 screen, but who knows...

You might want to keep checking Fry's for the A630.. when I was looking last week it was out of stock for delivery at one point but then a couple days later came back. Gone again, but you never know. Seemed like a great price and I was looking for pretty much the same thing.

I think you're better off sticking with what you have for now. Get the 24" dell monitor, run games at 1600x1200 or whatever, since not all games support widescreen anyways. You'll get letterboxed for games, but whatever, it looks fine, and in the future you can upgrade and run the ones that do...

If it's happening with something else (the ATI thing) it probably has nothing to do with this, but my cable box would do that, it would show up for a second, then go blank, but only in 1080i. Turned out to just be a weak signal, caused by some random splitter that had been installed and not capped.

I've got an ASUS K8V-SE Deluxe - it's enabled in BIOS, set to Minimal Power Management. Nothing seems to ever happen. Always stays steady at 2.2 GHz (A64 3200+)

Technically you could buy one of the cheapest thin clients (ie. www.neoware.com), Linux based thin client for 199$ and if you're running 2k or 2k3 server you can RDP in and run whatever. Or if you're not running either of those OS's maybe that link from above can handle the software side of it?
