Can't get two NICs working in Win98

Yeah, I decided to go for it and ordered a Linksys router from NewEgg, so I should be fixed up - thanks.

Can't get two NICs working in Win98

My cable modem does have ethernet - I've only got it on USB so I can connect the other computers to the two NICs. I realize it's kind of a lousy setup, though it worked ok before. There don't seem to be any IRQ problems - I've tried different slots and all I've got in there so far are the two...

Can't get two NICs working in Win98

Actually there's only 3 machines: machine A (with the cable modem and 2 nics) is new but simply replaced the old one - everything's in the same configuration as it was before when it worked, except that machine A is new. So machine A just connects to machines B and C. I'll get a switch or hub...

Can't get two NICs working in Win98

OK, here's the setup: we have three computers on our home network. Mine has two NICs, one to connect to each of the other two computers. (My computer is also hooked up to a cable modem via USB, and I'm sharing our Net connection with Wingate.) Everything was working fine like this before. I...

    Thermal pad question

I don't have a pic, but there was only a tiny amount near the edge of the cpu - there was still plenty on the heatsink.

    Thermal pad question

I was installing the heatsink on my retail XP 1800+, and when I first tried to press down the clip, I found that I needed to move the heatsink a bit so the first clip would be latched securely. When I removed the heatsink, a bit of the thermal pad material had already gotten on the CPU. I got...

    PS2/USB Mouse on serial port?

    Win98. It's a pentium 100, so I was a bit surprised the mb didn't have a ps/2 port, but it doesn't.

    PS2/USB Mouse on serial port?

I gave my dad a Logitech Mouseman Optical and it didn't work - turns out his (older) computer doesn't have a PS/2 port, and he had tried to plug it in to the PS/2-to-Serial adapter from his previous mouse. I assume the mouse just doesn't support serial, so it's impossible for him to use this...

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

Well apparently, some winmodems are just about entirely host-based and have inefficient drivers, requiring a faster CPU (but who knows why they need MMX - maybe it?s just a way of specifying minimum CPU speed?), and others like the Lucent that have a built-in DSP and better drivers can work on...

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

Yeah I figured that out - Lucent=Agere, and Rockwell=Conexant. And the Lucent is the one that's not so CPU-dependant.

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

I'm leaning toward just getting a couple Lucent/Conexant-based modems as skriefal suggested, for example the one on this page, which specifically says it'll work on a P90 or better. I'm more inclined toward this one, as it has cheaper shipping and I've dealt with NewEgg before, but I'm not sure...

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

Well let me ask this: how would I go about finding a PCI hardware modem, and how much more should I expect to pay over a winmodem? And can anyone recommend a good one?

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

OK, ISA - thanks. I was having trouble finding hardware modems, or even figuring out which modems were hardmodems, as they usually don't say on store sites, and pricewatch doesn't seem to have a catagory for them. Now another related question - I might end up needing to get a 56k modem myself...

    Winmodem for Pentium 100

Thanks - that's what I needed to know.

Another Logitech Mouseman Dual Optical wheel problem

Have you tried disabling smooth scrolling in IE? I find this makes for more responsive scrolling. As for games, Logitech has a registry patch, downloadable here (assuming you're using win98): http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/mousefiles_w98.cfm
